Summerfest officials announced on Friday the creation of a new alternative and modern-rock festival that will be held Friday, June 4 and Saturday, June 5 at Henry Maier Festival Park.

The yet unnamed festival is intended to kick off the summer festival season and appears to be a replacement of sorts for the now defunct RiverSplash festival, which had a 20-year run.

Summerfest producers will plan, promote and produce the festival, which is expected to feature a lineup of national and regional acts, action sports competitions, shopping and interactive exhibits.

WLUM-FM (FM 102.1) will be the presenting radio sponsor for the festival.

Organizers say they will stage a contest to name the festival. The contest begins immediately at YourMusicFest.com.

Tickets for the festival will be available beginning March 10 at 10 AM at www.yourmusicfest.com with no incremental fees and on Ticketmaster via phone at (800) 745-3000, online at www.ticketmaster.com, and at Ticketmaster outlets.

Advanced single day passes are $25, advanced two-day passes are $40, and day-of admission is $35 per day.

No reason to bash them just yet.  For all anyone knows, it could be an amazing 200 band and dj line-up that could rival any U.S. "coachella" type event.  Do I think that will be the case....initially no.....but you never know.  The advantage is they have Summerfest as the backing to this, and there are tons of tours that can't be booked for Summerfest due to the limit of music types and availability of the bands in placement of their tour at the time of Summerfest.

Interesting. Not a bad bill... $40 for Weezer and Eagles of Death Metal is probably worth it alone. Howie @ Establishment said Pezzettino was close to breaking through somewhere, this could be a good op perhaps.

I dont like the name but ya - $40 for the likes of Weezer is a good deal IMHO considering what they normally charge at many venues.

More acts lined up for Verge Music Festival

Posted: April 27, 2010 9:22 a.m.

The lineup is starting to fill out for the Verge Music Festival, the fledgling fest making its premiere June 4 and 5 at Maier Festival Park.

The event's organizer, Milwaukee World Festival Inc., announced a slew of additions to the bill for the two-day music festival. Among them: Manchester Orchestra, a hard-charging, guitar-based band from Atlanta; Scarlet Grey, a pop-powered California band; Empires, a chimy rock act whose members include The Academy Is . . . guitarist Tom Conrad; and Locksley, retro-ish rockers with roots in Madison.

The festival also has launched a new website - vergemusicfestival.com - and announced a special deal on tickets. Starting Friday at 6 a.m., in a nod to fest backer WLUM-FM (102.1), 1,021 single-day tickets for both days of Verge will go on sale for $10.21. They'll be available through Sunday, or while supplies last, at vergemusicfestival.com; enter the code fm1021.

Advanced general-admission tickets otherwise are $25 for a single-day pass and $40 for a two-day pass; single-day admission at the gate will be $35.
