As we expected, the new style of competition has brought up a number of questions. The ARRANGEMENT battle is a new approach to the Hip Hop beat battle. We’ve seen so many battles over the past years, where “celebrity” producers get on stage and someone plays “their” beats from a CDj or even worse, the Dj booth. While the energy of the beat is the determining factor in who wins any beat battle, we have always strived to offer a more in depth approach to the beat battle format.

Each year the Miltown Beat Down Battle has changed it’s rules in order to continue to challenge Milwaukee ’s producers to step outside of their comfort zone.
This year’s battle will consist of 2 types of competition; The FREESTYLE battle and THE ARRANGEMENT battle. Contestants will be required to participate in both battles. Each event challenges the producers to excite the crowd and impress the judges in a different way.

FREESTYLE BATTLE:
This battle follows the rules of a traditional beat battle. Producers are each given 60 seconds to play an original beat they have created. 3 beats, 2 producers and 1 winner!

ARRANGEMENT BATTLE:
This year the Miltown Beat Down has again created a new style of beat battle with the ARRANGEMENT BATTLE. In this battle, producers are given 4 minutes to arrange their beats into a collage of music and sound. Producers are encouraged to follow the DMC DJ competition style of battle. Diversity in style, sonic quality, battle samples and disses, and continuity in the overall presentation will determine the winner of this battle.

The Arrangement Battle requires producers to put together a 3-4 minute set of their own original beats.

The Arrangement Battle set must contain the following requirements:
- At least 3 minutes long, but no longer than 4 minutes.
- Must Contain at least 3 original compositions or beats ( more are encouraged )
- Must be mixed down to one MP3 or WAV file

This year’s battle will offer 16 producers the chance to be crowned the next MILTOWN BEAT DOWN champ!

i talked to him earlier today.  there are going to be 4 battles and then the finals.  they'll all be on friday nights and there will be a cover charge to get in.  he's also planning on having dj's/performers going on after the battle is done for the remainder of the evening.
